Category: Network Management

Description: Manages remote Sun Management Center agent configuration and query operations.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MIBMANREMOTE-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB?

This MIB module belongs to Sun Microsystems' Sun Management Center (SunMC, formerly SyMON) platform and provides the remote-agent interface used by a central SunMC server to query and control managed hosts' agents. Rather than modeling hardware directly, it exposes management-plane objects for locating and invoking SunMC modules on a remote agent, such as product identifiers and module-list retrieval used by the "sunsymon" management protocol. In practice this checks whether the SunMC agent process on a monitored Sun server or storage system is reachable and responding -- an operational/software health check rather than direct hardware telemetry -- though the SunMC modules it enumerates in turn report CPU, memory, disk, and hardware sensor data on the underlying Solaris host. It is tightly coupled to the proprietary Sun Management Center agent/server architecture and has limited meaning outside that ecosystem. It is deployed in Solaris/Sun server data centers running the Sun Management Center monitoring suite to centrally manage large fleets of Sun hardware. Engineers can download the MIBMANREMOTE-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MIBMANREMOTE-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Sun Microsystems servers/workstations running Sun Management Center (SunMC) agent software

Monitoring Examples

The sampled tree (sun, prod, sunsymon, agent, base, --modules) reflects the OID path used to enumerate installed SunMC modules on a remote agent rather than concrete monitored metrics, so an administrator would use this branch to confirm the SunMC agent on a given host is alive and to discover which monitoring modules are currently loaded. A failure to enumerate modules under this branch would indicate the SunMC agent daemon is down or unreachable on that host.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SunMC agent reachability
  • installed monitoring module list
  • agent/product version identification
