Category: Network Management

Description: Monitors Oracle Enterprise Manager 4 management framework status and event notifications.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ORACLE-ENTERPRISE-MANAGER-4-MIB?

ORACLE-ENTERPRISE-MANAGER-4-MIB forwards alerts from Oracle Enterprise Manager (Grid Control, 4.x generation) into SNMP, making it a management-framework MIB rather than a device-hardware MIB. It exposes alert records describing which monitored target raised an issue, the metric involved, its severity, and a timestamped message. Its monitoring role is centered on software/service status: it surfaces threshold violations and health-state changes for Oracle databases, application servers, and hosts that OEM itself is tracking, effectively relaying OEM's own monitoring conclusions rather than raw hardware telemetry. It sits on top of Oracle's proprietary metric/target framework and is not dependent on standard IETF hardware MIBs, though it uses the standard SNMP trap mechanism for delivery. It is deployed in enterprise environments where Oracle Enterprise Manager centrally monitors many database/middleware/host targets and needs to forward alerts to an external NMS. Engineers can download the ORACLE-ENTERPRISE-MANAGER-4-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ORACLE-ENTERPRISE-MANAGER-4-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control server
  • Oracle database and middleware hosts monitored by OEM

Monitoring Examples

oraEM4AlertTable/oraEM4AlertEntry, indexed by oraEM4AlertIndex, carries oraEM4AlertTargetName, oraEM4AlertTargetType, oraEM4AlertHostName, oraEM4AlertMetricName, oraEM4AlertSeverity, and oraEM4AlertMessage. An NMS operator would watch for an oraEM4AlertSeverity of 'critical' where oraEM4AlertMetricName is something like tablespace usage, pinpointing the exact oraEM4AlertTargetName/oraEM4AlertHostName combination approaching capacity. This lets database-level problems detected by OEM be escalated into the same alerting pipeline as network and hardware faults.

What Can Be Monitored

  • alert severity
  • alert metric name
  • target name/type/host
  • alert message text
  • alert timestamp
