Category: Domain: System Management

Description: Core infrastructure MIB defining fundamental management objects and textual conventions used as a base across a product family.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CORE-MIB?

CORE-MIB is a legacy proprietary MIB (enterprise OID 629) reporting slot/ring/channel hardware inventory and port status on a ring-based chassis platform. Its objects cover max/active slot, channel, and ring counts, a slot table (position, type, port count), and a port table (slot/port number, type, ring ID, first/last channel, link status, admin status, ring status, flow control, duplex, speed, good-byte-RX count). As a status/configuration MIB it lets an administrator confirm port link state and ring assignment on this legacy ring-based chassis platform. It is deployed on legacy ring-based chassis networking equipment. Engineers can download the CORE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CORE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nbase Communications (later Nbase-Xyplex) ring-based chassis Ethernet switch (legacy) — identified via enterprise OID 629 (Nbase Communications)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks corePortLinkStatus and corePortRingId to confirm port link state and ring assignment on this legacy ring-based chassis platform.

What Can Be Monitored

  • port link state, ring assignment, and duplex/speed configuration
