What Is CIENA-CES-MCAST-FILTER-MIB?
CIENA-CES-MCAST-FILTER-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Ciena for its Carrier Ethernet Switching (CES) product line, covering IGMP-based multicast traffic control at Layer 2. It defines IGMP snooping and multicast filtering objects that let an operator see and control which ports and VLANs are permitted to forward specific multicast groups. Though primarily a configuration MIB, it supports monitoring by exposing filter state, letting an operator confirm whether IGMP snooping/filtering policy is correctly enforced on an interface and catch stale or misconfigured filter entries that could cause multicast leakage or traffic loss. It builds on the standard IGMP protocol model and is typically used alongside vendor bridge/VLAN MIBs and industry-standard multicast MIBs for a complete picture. It is deployed in Carrier Ethernet access/aggregation networks using Ciena CES switches for IPTV or other multicast-sensitive services. Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll the module's per-interface/VLAN multicast filter entries to confirm which IGMP groups are permitted or blocked, checking for mismatches between provisioned policy and enforced state. A missing or incorrectly scoped filter entry would reveal a misconfiguration allowing unauthorized multicast access or blocking legitimate IPTV traffic.
