What Is CIENA-GLOBAL-MIB?
CIENA-GLOBAL-MIB defines the top-level object identifier structure and enterprise OID registrations common across all of Ciena Corporation's MIB modules, for its optical transport and packet networking equipment lines. As a global registration module, it establishes the OID subtree beneath which Ciena's chassis, card, alarm, and performance MIBs are organized, rather than defining any hardware or software status objects itself. It has no runtime tables for uptime, temperature, CPU load, or fault counters -- those live in the device-specific and alarm MIB modules that hang off the OID tree this module establishes. Its main dependency is structural: every other Ciena MIB imports or references the OID roots defined here to place its own objects consistently in the enterprise tree. It is deployed as a prerequisite for compiling any other Ciena MIB, seen in any environment running Ciena optical/packet transport gear (e.g., 5400 series, 6500 series platforms). Any CIENA-GLOBAL-MIB reference found in a product MIB's import clause is pointing to this OID-registration role rather than to a source of pollable device metrics.

Monitoring Examples
The module's description states it "defines the object identifiers that are common across all modules," and sample_objects is empty because it carries no monitorable instances of its own. There is no realistic monitoring scenario for this module in isolation -- an NMS never polls it directly; it only relies on the OID structure it defines when compiling and addressing objects from other Ciena MIBs.
