Description: Monitors blade/line-card hardware and operational status in Ciena WaveServer chassis.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CIENA-WS-BLADE-MIB?
CIENA-WS-BLADE-MIB is a Ciena proprietary MIB for the WaveServer optical transport chassis that models the physical blades/line cards installed in the system, including their identity, model, hardware description, MAC addresses, and operational state. It exposes clear hardware-status data: the blade identification table reports model and description information used to inventory installed hardware, while the blade state table reports each blade's current operational status. This makes it a direct hardware-health MIB, letting an administrator detect a blade that has gone offline, is mismatched from its expected model, or has failed to come into service after insertion. It relies on the general entity/chassis model conventions common across Ciena optical platforms rather than a specific external standard MIB. It is deployed in Ciena WaveServer optical transport chassis used by carriers and enterprises for high-capacity DWDM/coherent optical transport. Engineers can download the CIENA-WS-BLADE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIENA-WS-BLADE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ciena WaveServer optical transport chassis
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll cwsBladeBladeidentificationModel and cwsBladeBladeidentificationDescription in cwsBladeBladeidentificationTable to inventory which blade types are installed in each slot, keyed by cwsBladeBladeidentificationTableSnmpKey. cwsBladeBladestateTable/cwsBladeBladestateEntry would be checked to confirm every blade shows an in-service or up state; a blade unexpectedly reporting a down or failed state would indicate a hardware fault requiring a card swap. cwsBladeBladeidentificationBasemacaddress would be used to correlate a physical blade to its network-facing MAC address for inventory or troubleshooting purposes.
What Can Be Monitored
- installed blade model/type
- blade description and hardware identification
- blade operational/state status
- blade base MAC address
