What Is DACS-MIB?

DACS-MIB manages a Digital Access Cross-Connect System, a device used to provision and cross-connect DS0-level TDM circuits within T1/E1 digital transmission networks. Its sample objects show hardware version reporting, trap masking/value configuration, a change counter, configuration message text, and a management trap IP table used to direct SNMP traps to specific management stations, alongside references to Token Ring and FDDI interface types. It is used to monitor the hardware status of the cross-connect device through agnHwVersion, detect configuration or provisioning changes via agnChangeCnt, and control fault/event notification behavior through agnTrapMask, agnTrapValue, and agnConfigMsg, which together reveal whether the system's circuit provisioning has changed unexpectedly or is generating an unusual volume of trap events. Its Token Ring (radTokenRing) and FDDI (radFddi) references suggest dependency on, or coexistence with, legacy LAN interface MIBs alongside core TDM circuit management. It is typically deployed in telecom central offices or enterprise WAN aggregation points where DS0/T1/E1 circuits are cross-connected and groomed. Engineers can download the DACS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An operator reads agnHwVersion to confirm the DACS hardware revision and watches agnChangeCnt to detect unexpected circuit re-provisioning events. Configuring mngTrapIpTable/mngEntry entries (mngID, mngIP, mngIPMask, mngTrapMask) directs specific alarm traps, gated by agnTrapMask and agnTrapValue, to the correct management station. A sudden change in agnConfigMsg content combined with a jump in agnChangeCnt would alert an admin that DS0 channel mappings were altered outside of a planned maintenance window.
