What Is ACS-MIB?

Despite the generic short description, the module text and object names identify this as the Avocent vendor MIB extension for the ACS 6000-series serial console/terminal servers, used to remotely manage and monitor these out-of-band access appliances. It exposes device identification objects (host name, product model, part/serial numbers, EID) along with firmware/bootcode version, dual power-supply status, and active session counts. It is squarely a hardware/software status MIB: it reports firmware and bootcode software versions, power-supply health (acsPowerSupplyStatePw1/Pw2), and the number of active console sessions, and even offers an acsReboot control object to remotely restart the unit. It is a self-contained enterprise MIB with no heavy dependency on other MIBs beyond standard SNMPv2-SMI conventions. It is typically deployed in data centers and remote sites where the ACS console server provides out-of-band serial access to other network gear, and operators poll it to confirm the console server itself is healthy. Engineers can download the ACS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ACS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll acsPowerSupplyStatePw1 and acsPowerSupplyStatePw2 to detect a failed redundant power supply, and check acsFirmwareVersion/acsBootcodeVersion to audit software levels across a fleet of console servers. acsActiveSessionsNumberOfSession shows how many serial/console sessions are currently open, useful for capacity planning or detecting stuck sessions. If needed, an operator can trigger acsReboot remotely, then verify recovery by re-reading acsHostName and acsSerialNumber to confirm the correct unit came back online.
