What Is CISCO-ITP-GTCAP-MIB?
CISCO-ITP-GTCAP-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB for the Cisco IP Transfer Point (ITP), covering the TCAP (Transaction Capabilities Application Part) layer of the SS7 protocol stack per ITU-T Q.752 measurement recommendations. It exposes TCAP transaction message counters, component/error message statistics, and configurable thresholds and notification controls for transaction, component, and user errors. This is primarily a software-layer traffic and fault-monitoring MIB: it lets operators track TCAP message throughput and error rates and receive threshold-exceeded notifications signaling abnormal transaction failure rates, rather than reporting on physical hardware. It relates closely to ITU Q-series SS7 standards and other Cisco ITP MIBs covering lower SS7 layers (MTP3). It is deployed in telecom carrier signaling networks running Cisco ITP nodes that process database-query style SS7 transactions (e.g., number portability, roaming lookups), typically beginning with a CISCO-ITP-GTCAP-MIB download to load its object definitions into a MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll cgtcapInstTable/cgtcapInstTableEntry for cgtcapInstTotalTCMsgsSent, cgtcapInstTotalTCMsgsRcvd, and cgtcapInstTotalCompSent to gauge TCAP transaction volume per instance. Enabling cgtcapTranErrorNotifEnabled, cgtcapCompErrorNotifEnabled, and cgtcapUsrErrorNotifEnabled with cgtcapThreshldExcdNotifEnabled lets the ITP send a trap when error rates over cgtcapStatsInterval exceed configured limits. A rising cgtcapInstTotalCompSent count without a corresponding rise in successful responses could indicate a backend database responding slowly to TCAP queries.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor
Example using cgtcapInstTotalTCMsgsSent OID:
Select a Cisco IP Transfer Point (ITP) SS7 signaling gateway (legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cgtcapInstTotalTCMsgsSent into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the total number of transaction messages sent from the local TCAP (Q752/13.1 bis). On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline (in messages), since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
