Description: Manages virtual home agent mobility bindings and tunneling on CommWorks/3Com equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is USR-VHA-MIB?
USR-VHA-MIB is a CommWorks/3Com enterprise MIB defining objects for Virtual Home Agent (VHA) functionality, a Mobile IP component used to manage mobility bindings and tunneling for roaming subscribers. Because no object list was captured for this batch, its exact table structure cannot be detailed here, but by convention such mobility MIBs expose configuration for home agent addresses, binding tables tracking mobile node associations, and tunnel statistics. Its monitoring value would be primarily software/service-state oriented: verifying that mobile IP tunnels are established and mobility bindings are current, rather than hardware health. It likely complements or overlaps conceptually with the IETF Mobile IP MIB definitions (RFC 2006) even if not formally imported. Typical deployment is on CommWorks broadband/mobility gateways used by carriers to support mobile IP roaming services. Engineers can download the USR-VHA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in USR-VHA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- CommWorks/3Com mobility gateway
- carrier broadband access equipment supporting Mobile IP
Monitoring Examples
Given the module description references VHA (Virtual Home Agent) mobility bindings, a monitoring scenario would involve polling binding-table entries to confirm active mobile node registrations and detect stale or expired bindings, but no sample objects were provided in this batch to name specific tables or counters.

This value is set indirectly by setting usrVHASessionsMajorAlarmThreshPct Changing threshold values causes the alarm state to be re-evaluated. IF usrVHASessionsMajorAlarmThresh is non zero, THEN object must be less than usrVHASessionsMajorAlarmThresh. This value is set indirectly by setting usrVHASessionsClearAlarmThreshPct Changing the threshold value causes the alarm state to be re-evaluated. IF usrVHASessionsAlarmState is not 'clear' and the current gauge value is equal or less than this threshold, THEN usrVHASessionsAlarmState will change to 'clear'. The allowed range of this object is 0 to 100. Writing this object causes usrVHASessionsMajorAlarmThresh to be re-calculated. Writing usrVHASessionsMajorAlarmThresh causes this object to be re-calculated. See usrVHASessionsMajorAlarmThresh for effects of changing threshold value such as causing the alarm state to be re-evaluated. |

| INT usrVHASessionsAlarmState | 1.3.6.1.4.1.429.4.84.10.1.7 | INTEGER | read-write | Alarm state is maintained by PDSN by comparing usrVHASessionsCurrent with critical, major, and clear alarm thresholds. IF alarm state changes to critical, AND usrVHASessionsTrapsEnabled is true THEN usrVHASessionsCriticalAlarm TRAP will be sent. IF alarm state changes to major, AND usrVHASessionsTrapsEnabled is true THEN usrVHASessionsMajorAlarm TRAP will be sent. IF alarm state changes to clear, AND usrVHASessionsTrapsEnabled is true THEN usrVHASessionsCriticalAlarm TRAP will be sent. IF alarm state changes, THEN usrVHASessionsAlarmTime is updated with the current time regardless of usrVHASessionsTrapsEnabled and usrVHASessionsAlarmChanges is incremented. This allows alarm state and time information to be retrieved by SNMP management stations that don't support SNMP traps or when traps are intentionally disabled to reduce trap processing load on the SNMP management station. Writing a 'clear' value will force the alarm state to go to 'clear'. This will count as a state change and cause a trap if the state was 'major' or 'critical'. This step conceptually occurs before comparing the alarm thresholds. If major or critical thresholds are exceeded, the appropriate state change and trap occur. This means that writing 'clear' may cause 0, 1, or 2 alarm state changes and traps. |

| INT usrVHAActiveSessionsAlarmState | 1.3.6.1.4.1.429.4.84.10.2.8 | INTEGER | read-write | Alarm state is maintained by PDSN by comparing usrVHAActiveSessionsCurrent with critical, major, and clear alarm thresholds. IF alarm state changes to critical, AND usrVHAActiveSessionsTrapsEnabled is true THEN usrVHAActiveSessionsCriticalAlarm TRAP will be sent. IF alarm state changes to major, AND usrVHAActiveSessionsTrapsEnabled is true THEN usrVHAActiveSessionsMajorAlarm TRAP will be sent.
