Description: Manages Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR SONET/SDH automatic protection switching configuration.

Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TIMETRA-APS-MIB?

TIMETRA-APS-MIB is Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent's SROS MIB (used on 7750 SR and related platforms) that manages and provisions Automatic Protection Switching (APS) for SONET/SDH interfaces, extending the standard APS MIB from RFC 3498. It exposes command objects to trigger APS switch actions and exercises, per-channel status tables reporting line alarm indication signal (LAIS) state and other protection-channel conditions, and multi-chassis (Mc) configuration objects for inter-node protection coordination including neighbor address, advertise interval, and hold time. Its monitoring value is squarely on hardware/link fault detection and redundancy status: an operator can confirm whether a protection switchover has occurred, whether a channel is transmitting an alarm indication signal, and whether the multi-chassis protection neighbor relationship is healthy, all central to SONET/SDH high-availability operation. It explicitly extends the IETF APS-MIB (RFC 3498), making it dependent on that standard as a base. It is typically deployed by carriers running Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia 7750 SR routers with SONET/SDH protected transport links requiring sub-second failover monitoring. Engineers can download the TIMETRA-APS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-APS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR (SROS) router with SONET/SDH interfaces

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll tApsChanStatusTable for tApsChanTxLaisState to detect whether a protection channel is currently transmitting an alarm indication signal, indicating a line fault on that channel. Checking tApsMcConfigTable objects like tApsMcNeighborAddr, tApsMcAdvertiseInterval, and tApsMcHoldTime would confirm the multi-chassis protection peer is correctly configured and reachable, while issuing a command via tApsCommandTable and reading tApsExerciseCommandResult lets an admin test-exercise the protection switch without a real failure. A tApsChanTxLaisState alarm combined with a missed multi-chassis hold-time would together point to a protection group at risk of failing over improperly.

What Can Be Monitored

  • APS/protection channel alarm indication signal state
  • APS command/exercise results
  • multi-chassis protection neighbor configuration
  • protection group advertise interval and hold time
