Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is QB-SONET-MIB?
QB-SONET-MIB is a Quantum Bridge Communications proprietary MIB that extends the standard SONET MIB with additional objects for managing SONET links on Quantum Bridge transport devices. It belongs to the optical/SONET transport equipment area and supplements standard section, line, and path overhead parameters with vendor-specific management data, including support for Automatic Protection Switching (APS). Its monitoring relevance is fault and performance status of SONET links: overhead byte configuration, alarm/defect conditions, and APS switchover events that indicate a protected SONET circuit has failed over to its standby path due to a line fault. It has an explicit stated dependency on the standard SONET MIB (RFC 2558 family), which this module augments rather than replaces. It is typically deployed on Quantum Bridge SONET add/drop multiplexers or transport network elements at the optical edge of a service provider network. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the QB-SONET-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in QB-SONET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples
Only the conformance objects qbSonetCompliances and qbSonetGroups were captured as sample objects, so this MIB's visible sample content is a conformance statement rather than runtime data leaves. In practice, given the module description, an operator would use the underlying per-link objects (not present in the sample) to monitor APS protection-switch state and SONET section/line/path overhead settings, watching for an unexpected APS switchover as an indicator of a fiber cut or line-card fault; a concrete object name for that cannot be honestly given without data beyond the two compliance/group objects provided.
