What Is CISCO-WAN-CELL-EXT-MIB?

CISCO-WAN-CELL-EXT-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB that extends CISCO-WAN-3G-MIB to add management support for Cisco's cellular WAN 4G/LTE modem products used in routers and industrial gateways. It exposes radio-layer performance data such as signal strength and quality indicators (RSRP, RSRQ, SNR, SINR, CQI) along with the modem's current operating band and configurable notification thresholds. Its primary monitoring use is hardware/radio status of the embedded LTE modem, tracking degrading signal conditions before they cause a WAN link outage, rather than general CPU/memory or environmental data. As an extension module it explicitly depends on CISCO-WAN-3G-MIB for its base object definitions and conventions. It is typically deployed on Cisco branch, industrial (IR8xx/IR1101-class), or IoT gateway routers that use LTE as a primary or backup WAN uplink. Engineers can download the CISCO-WAN-CELL-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

cwceLteRadioTable/cwceLteRadioEntry rows expose cwceLteCurrRsrp, cwceLteCurrRsrq, cwceLteCurrSnr, and cwceLteCurrSinr per radio instance, which an admin polls to detect degrading LTE signal quality at a remote site. Threshold objects cwceLteRsrpOnsetNotifThreshold and cwceLteRsrpAbateNotifThreshold pair with cwceLteNotifRsrp to trigger notifications from ciscoWanCellExtMIBNotifs when signal drops below or recovers above a configured RSRP threshold, alerting ops before the link fails.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using cwceLteEpsTotalBytesTx OID:

Select a Cisco IR8xx/IR1101 series industrial router (4G/LTE) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cwceLteEpsTotalBytesTx into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. This object indicates the total data bytes transmitted by this bearer. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline (in bytes), since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
