Last Updated: 2009-01-14
Category: Network Interfaces, Vendor: HP/HPE, Wireless and WLAN
Description: Monitors network interface status and counters on Colubris/HP wireless access point devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is COLUBRIS-DEVICE-IF-MIB?
This MIB, from Colubris Networks (later acquired by HP for its wireless access point line), provides interface-level status and statistics for a Colubris/HP AP's network interfaces. It exposes a status table with per-interface friendly name, type, VLAN, IP address, MAC address, operational state, and Power-over-Ethernet forwarding status, plus a companion statistics table for interface counters. This is squarely a hardware/interface status MIB: it lets an admin monitor whether each interface is up/down, its VLAN and IP assignment, and whether PoE is being forwarded downstream, all useful for diagnosing connectivity or power-delivery issues at the interface level. It complements the standard IETF IF-MIB conventions (ifIndex-style interface enumeration) with Colubris-specific status fields. It is deployed on Colubris/HP wireless access points in enterprise WLAN deployments. Engineers can download the COLUBRIS-DEVICE-IF-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in COLUBRIS-DEVICE-IF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Colubris/HP wireless access point
Monitoring Examples
An admin polls coDeviceIfStatusTable and reads coDevIfStaState for a coDevIfStaIfIndex to confirm whether a given interface (identified by coDevIfStaFriendlyInterfaceName) is up, alongside coDevIfStaIpAddress/coDevIfStaMACAddress/coDevIfStaVLAN to verify correct addressing and VLAN tagging. coDevIfStaPowerForwardingStatus reveals whether the AP is forwarding PoE power out a port, useful when a downstream device isn't powering on. The companion coDeviceIfStatsTable would be polled for interface traffic counters to spot abnormal throughput or errors.
What Can Be Monitored
- interface operational state
- interface IP address and VLAN
- interface MAC address
- PoE forwarding status
- interface traffic statistics
