Description: Monitors Fibre Channel port state, statistics, error counters, and FSM lifecycle on Cisco UCS fabric interconnect FC uplinks and server ports

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-FC-MIB?

CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-FC-MIB is part of Cisco's Unified Computing System (UCS) management information model, focused specifically on Fibre Channel connectivity on UCS fabric interconnects and server FC uplinks. It exposes FC port operational state, FSM (finite state machine) lifecycle status, and detailed error/discard statistics counters for each FC port instance. It is heavily used to monitor hardware health of the SAN fabric, tracking CRC errors and discarded frames on FC links to catch failing optics, cabling, or fabric issues before they disrupt storage traffic, functioning as a fault/performance-counter MIB rather than a configuration one. It is one module within Cisco's broader UCS MIB family and depends on shared UCS naming conventions (distinguished names/relative names) used across other cucs* MIBs. It is typically deployed in data centers running Cisco UCS blade/rack servers with FC or FCoE SAN connectivity through UCS fabric interconnects. Engineers can download the CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-FC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-FC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnect
  • Cisco UCS blade/rack server FC uplinks

Monitoring Examples

cucsFcErrStatsTable/cucsFcErrStatsEntry rows, indexed by cucsFcErrStatsDn/Rn, expose cucsFcErrStatsCrcRx along with cucsFcErrStatsCrcRxDelta, cucsFcErrStatsCrcRxDeltaAvg, and cucsFcErrStatsCrcRxDeltaMax/Min so an admin can poll CRC error deltas per FC uplink to detect physical-layer degradation from a failing SFP or cable. cucsFcErrStatsDiscardRx and cucsFcErrStatsDiscardRxDelta similarly reveal a rising rate of discarded frames, which would indicate congestion or a fabric problem impacting storage traffic on that port.

What Can Be Monitored

  • FC port CRC errors
  • discarded frame counts
  • error delta/min/max/average statistics
  • FC port instance identifiers (DN/RN)
