Description: Manages WWN address pools (WWPN/WWNN) and FC initiator pool assignments for Cisco UCS service profile identity allocation

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-FCPOOL-MIB?

CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-FCPOOL-MIB is part of the Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) management MIB family, covering Fibre Channel World Wide Name (WWN) address pool management for Cisco UCS Manager. It exposes configuration and inventory data about WWPN/WWNN address pools, address blocks, and the assignment of individual FC identities to UCS service profiles. While primarily a configuration-plane MIB, it is useful for monitoring the operational health of identity provisioning by tracking pool utilization -- how many addresses are assigned versus defined -- which reveals capacity exhaustion before it blocks new server profile deployments. It is one of several sibling MIBs (IPPOOL, UUIDPOOL, MAC pool, etc.) that together form the Cisco UCS Manager SNMP information model and depend on the shared UCS managed-object addressing scheme (distinguished names). It is deployed wherever Cisco UCS Manager centrally manages blade or rack servers connecting to Fibre Channel SANs. Engineers can download the CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-FCPOOL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-FCPOOL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco UCS Manager (blade and rack servers)
  • Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnect

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll cucsFcpoolAddrTable/cucsFcpoolAddrEntry to see individual WWN entries via cucsFcpoolAddrId, cucsFcpoolAddrAssigned, and cucsFcpoolAddrAssignedToDn, confirming which service profile (by DN) owns a given WWPN. Comparing cucsFcpoolAddrGlobalAssignedCnt against cucsFcpoolAddrGlobalDefinedCnt across a pool reveals when a pool is nearly exhausted, which would block new service profile associations. The related cucsFcpoolBlockTable lets an admin verify configured address ranges match expected pool sizing.

What Can Be Monitored

  • WWN pool assigned vs. defined address counts
  • individual WWPN/WWNN assignment status
  • service profile-to-address ownership
  • address pool block ranges
  • pool exhaustion risk
