Description: Manages DHCPv6 client configuration and lease information on Ciena CES Carrier Ethernet switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CIENA-CES-DHCPV6-CLIENT-MIB?
CIENA-CES-DHCPV6-CLIENT-MIB is a Ciena vendor-private MIB (registered under cienaCesConfig.30) that manages the DHCPv6 client and relay-agent functionality on Ciena Carrier Ethernet Switch (CES) products. It exposes client-side state through cienaCesDhcpv6AdminState, cienaCesDhcpv6IfName, and cienaCesDhcpv6RapidCommitState, requested lease timing via cienaCesDhcpv6PrefLifetimeReq and cienaCesDhcpv6ValidLifetimeReq, and a cienaCesDhcpv6ClientOptionTable that lists which DHCPv6 options (indexed by cienaCesDhcpv6OptionCodeIndex) are supported and enabled on the client. The module also defines a cienaCesDhcpv6RelayAgent branch, extended over several revisions to add Lightweight DHCPv6 Relay Agent (LDRA) support for Q-in-Q and MPLS virtual-switch relay scenarios. As primarily a configuration/state MIB, it is useful for confirming that IPv6 address acquisition is administratively enabled and correctly bound to the intended interface rather than for raw traffic counters. It is deployed alongside the broader CIENA-SMI/CIENA-TC MIB framework on CES switches acting as DHCPv6 clients or relay points in provider access networks; network engineers can download the CIENA-CES-DHCPV6-CLIENT-MIB file to configure and monitor DHCPv6 client behavior on these switches.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIENA-CES-DHCPV6-CLIENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ciena Carrier Ethernet Switches (CES series)
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls cienaCesDhcpv6AdminState and cienaCesDhcpv6IfName to confirm the DHCPv6 client is enabled on the expected uplink interface, then checks cienaCesDhcpv6ClientOptionTable to verify required options are enabled; an AdminState showing disabled or an unexpectedly empty cienaCesDhcpv6IfName would indicate the switch is not attempting IPv6 address acquisition on that interface.
What Can Be Monitored
- DHCPv6 client administrative state
- client interface binding
- rapid-commit option state
- requested preferred/valid lease lifetimes
- supported DHCPv6 option codes and their enable state
- DHCPv6 relay agent (including LDRA) configuration

RFC description
DHCPv6 client management for Ciena CES optical networking products. Manages DHCPv6 client configuration, relay agents, and associated statistics.
Start monitoring Ciena CES (Carrier Ethernet Switch) platforms with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
