Description: Manages extended Link Aggregation Group (LAG) features on Ciena CES Carrier Ethernet switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CIENA-CES-EXT-LAG-MIB?

CIENA-CES-EXT-LAG-MIB is a Ciena enterprise MIB that extends the standard IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation Group (LAG) MIB with additional management objects for creating and deleting LAGs on Ciena CES Carrier Ethernet switches. It exposes configuration data for LAG membership and lifecycle management, layered on top of the base link-aggregation data model. Its monitoring value lies in tracking the software-managed state of link aggregation groups, such as which LAGs exist, their membership, and administrative changes, which helps detect misconfigured or unexpectedly removed aggregated links that could reduce available bandwidth or redundancy. It explicitly depends on and extends the ieee8023-lag-mib standard rather than replacing it. It is deployed on CES switches wherever multiple physical links are bundled for higher throughput or resiliency in Carrier Ethernet networks. Engineers can download the CIENA-CES-EXT-LAG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIENA-CES-EXT-LAG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ciena Carrier Ethernet Switch (CES)

Monitoring Examples

No sample object names were supplied for this module, but given its role as a LAG-creation extension, a typical scenario would involve polling LAG existence and membership tables to confirm that a configured aggregation group still contains its expected member ports, and alerting if a LAG was deleted or a member port dropped out, which would reduce aggregate bandwidth.

What Can Be Monitored

  • LAG creation/deletion status
  • LAG membership
  • aggregated link configuration
