Description: Manages cellular WAN interface parameters including signal strength, network registration, and data session statistics for cellular modem devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CELLULAR?

CELLULAR is a vendor-neutral-styled MIB module (named simply "CELLULAR") for managing cellular WAN interfaces on devices with an embedded cellular modem, such as routers or gateways used for LTE/cellular backup or primary WAN connectivity. It exposes cellular-specific parameters including signal strength, network registration status, and data-session statistics, layered on top of the connectivity a cellular modem provides. This is squarely a hardware/connectivity-status MIB: signal strength and registration state indicate whether the cellular radio hardware has a usable link to the carrier network, while session statistics reveal data-usage and throughput behavior, making it useful for detecting a modem that has lost carrier registration or is experiencing poor RF conditions. Given the generic module description, it likely complements standard IF-MIB interface counters for the cellular interface with radio-specific detail not covered by IF-MIB. It is deployed on cellular-enabled routers/gateways used for branch-office WAN backup, IoT connectivity, or primary cellular broadband access. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the CELLULAR RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CELLULAR. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • cellular-enabled router/gateway
  • LTE/cellular WAN modem device

Monitoring Examples

Because sample_objects is empty for this entry, exact object names cannot be confirmed, but based on the module's stated purpose an administrator would poll signal-strength and network-registration-status objects to detect when a cellular gateway has dropped off the carrier network or is operating with marginal RF signal, and would check data-session statistics to spot unexpected data usage spikes that could indicate a failover event or a misbehaving application consuming the cellular link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • cellular signal strength
  • network registration status
  • data session statistics
  • carrier/network selection state
