What Is LLDP-MIB?
LLDP-MIB is the IEEE 802.1AB standard MIB implementing the Link Layer Discovery Protocol, used by switches, routers, and other network devices to advertise and discover their identity and capabilities to directly connected neighbors. It exposes configuration objects (transmit intervals, hold multipliers, reinitialization delay, per-port admin status and TLV selection) as well as local and remote system data describing discovered neighbor devices and their management addresses. Its monitoring value is primarily topology and configuration-oriented rather than hardware health; it lets administrators verify neighbor discovery is functioning correctly, confirm port-level LLDP is enabled where expected, and build an accurate map of physical network connectivity. As a vendor-neutral IEEE standard it has no dependency on a specific vendor's proprietary MIBs, though it's commonly deployed alongside IF-MIB for interface correlation; most SNMP tools and MIB browsers ship lldp-mib support out of the box because of how widely it's implemented. It's ubiquitous on modern managed Ethernet switches, routers, wireless access points, and IP phones for topology discovery and inventory automation.

Monitoring Examples
An administrator would check lldpPortConfigTable/lldpPortConfigEntry, keyed by lldpPortConfigPortNum, to confirm lldpPortConfigAdminStatus is enabled and which TLVs are set via lldpPortConfigTLVsTxEnable on each port. Polling lldpConfigManAddrTable reveals the management addresses being advertised, while tuning lldpMessageTxInterval and lldpMessageTxHoldMultiplier affects how quickly stale neighbor entries expire. If a port that should show an active neighbor stops reporting via lldpNotificationInterval-driven traps, that signals a cable disconnect or a neighbor device with LLDP disabled.
