What Is LLDP-V2-MIB?

LLDP-V2-MIB is the vendor-neutral IEEE 802.1AB-2016 standards-track module defining the second-generation Link Layer Discovery Protocol objects, supporting the newer architecture where multiple LLDP agents on a single port can each transmit using a different MAC address. It exposes global and per-port LLDP configuration (transmit interval, hold multiplier, reinitialization delay, notification interval, fast-transmit parameters) as well as local system data and remote (neighbor) system data used for topology discovery. Its monitoring role is chiefly topology and configuration status — confirming LLDP is enabled and correctly timed on each port, and, via the neighbor tables it maintains, detecting unexpected new neighbors, missing expected neighbors, or topology changes that could indicate a mis-cabled or newly connected device. It supersedes and extends the original LLDP-MIB while remaining layered on standard IF-MIB interface indexing for port association. It is deployed on essentially any modern LLDP-capable switch, router, or endpoint device used for automated network topology discovery and inventory, and network engineers often consult the LLDP-V2-MIB reference alongside IEEE 802.1AB-2016 when mapping objects to the legacy LLDP-MIB.
