What Is CTRON-CSMACD-MIB?
CTRON-CSMACD-MIB is a Cabletron Systems (later Enterasys) proprietary enterprise MIB extending the standard Ethernet/CSMA-CD interface model to manage Cabletron network switches and hubs. It exposes interface-level configuration alongside error and collision statistics for each Ethernet port, layering vendor-specific detail on top of generic interface counters. Monitoring it reveals the hardware health of individual Ethernet ports: rising collision counts, alignment/CRC errors, or late collisions signal a failing NIC, bad cabling, or a duplex mismatch on that port. It builds on the concepts of the standard EtherLike-MIB (RFC 3635) and IF-MIB, adding Cabletron-specific counters not present in those standards. It would be deployed on legacy Cabletron/Enterasys Ethernet switches and hubs where administrators need vendor-specific physical-layer error detail beyond what IF-MIB/EtherLike-MIB provide. Engineers can download the CTRON-CSMACD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-CSMACD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cabletron/Enterasys Ethernet switch or hub
Monitoring Examples
No sample object names were supplied for this MIB, so specific table/field names cannot be cited with confidence. Based on its description, it would be expected to expose a per-port table of CSMA/CD error and collision counters analogous to dot3StatsTable in the standard EtherLike-MIB. An admin would typically poll such a table to watch for a sudden rise in late-collision or FCS-error counts on a specific port, indicating a failing transceiver or a cabling/duplex problem.
What Can Be Monitored
- Ethernet port collision counts
- CRC/alignment error counts
- interface configuration state
