Category: SNMP Framework, Textual Conventions and Registries, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys

Description: Defines Cabletron textual conventions for entity state enumerations used in CTRON-ENTITY-STATE-MIB.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CTRON-ENTITY-STATE-TC-MIB?

CTRON-ENTITY-STATE-TC-MIB is a Cabletron Systems support MIB that defines only textual conventions (TCs) — reusable state enumeration types — used by the companion CTRON-ENTITY-STATE-MIB, rather than defining any monitorable objects itself. It does not expose data directly; instead it standardizes how entity states (such as administrative, operational, or usage states) are represented as enumerated integer values across other Cabletron MIBs. Because it contains no runtime objects, it has no direct role in monitoring hardware/software status such as uptime, temperature, or CPU load, but it underpins the consistent interpretation of state values reported by MIBs that do expose such status. It is explicitly modeled after RFC-style entity state conventions, referencing an RFC (noted in its description text) and Internet Society copyright, indicating direct dependence on IETF entity-state standardization work. It is deployed only as a supporting/imported module wherever CTRON-ENTITY-STATE-MIB or similar Cabletron MIBs are loaded on a management station, making this CTRON-ENTITY-STATE-TC-MIB reference useful primarily for understanding the state values reported by those dependent modules.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-ENTITY-STATE-TC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral/Cabletron-specific supporting definitions module, not a monitorable device type itself

Monitoring Examples

This is a textual-conventions-only support module with no MODULE-IDENTITY runtime objects or tables of its own, so no concrete monitoring scenario applies; sample_objects for this MIB is empty, confirming it defines only TC types (e.g., administrative/operational/usage state enumerations) consumed by other MIBs. An administrator would never poll this MIB directly — instead they would poll objects in CTRON-ENTITY-STATE-MIB whose SYNTAX is defined using these conventions. Describing a monitoring scenario against this module itself would be inaccurate.
