What Is CISCO-WIRELESS-HOTSPOT-MIB?

CISCO-WIRELESS-HOTSPOT-MIB configures Hotspot 2.0 (Wi-Fi Alliance) functionality on Cisco wireless LAN Central Controllers that terminate the CAPWAP tunnel from Lightweight Access Points, enabling standards-based public Wi-Fi/carrier-offload hotspot services. It exposes configuration data for two main areas: ANQP (Access Network Query Protocol) server settings such as server name, description, network/venue type, HESSID, GAS request timeout, and fragmentation threshold, plus hotspot icon configuration used by client devices during network discovery. As a largely configuration-oriented MIB its status-monitoring value is mainly administrative, confirming an ANQP server entry's row status is active, verifying internet-enabled and venue/network-type settings match intended policy, and checking GAS timeout/fragmentation parameters that affect hotspot client onboarding reliability rather than classic hardware health metrics. It builds directly on Wi-Fi Alliance Hotspot 2.0/ANQP standards layered on top of Cisco's CAPWAP-based wireless controller architecture. It is deployed on Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (Central Controllers) providing Hotspot 2.0 public-access Wi-Fi services. Engineers can download the CISCO-WIRELESS-HOTSPOT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-WIRELESS-HOTSPOT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

An administrator would inspect cLHotspotAnqpServerConfigTable/cLHotspotAnqpServerConfigEntry, keyed by cLHotspotAnqpServerName, to confirm cLHotspotAnqpServerRowStatus is active and that cLHotspotAnqpServerNetworkType/cLHotspotAnqpServerVenueType are correctly set for the deployment. Unexpectedly high client onboarding failures could be correlated with cLHotspotGasRequestTimeout or cLHotspotAnqpFragmentationThreshold values that are too aggressive for the RF environment. cLHotspotAnqpServerHessid identifies the homogeneous ESS this ANQP server represents to roaming clients.
