Category: ATM, Cisco Devices

Description: Manages ATM LANE Configuration Server (LECS) policy tables and ELAN client assignments.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-LECS-MIB?

CISCO-LECS-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB for managing the ATM LAN Emulation Configuration Server (LECS), a legacy component of Cisco's LAN Emulation (LANE) implementation over ATM networks that assigns LAN Emulation Clients (LECs) to the correct Emulated LAN (ELAN). It exposes a per-interface table of LECS configuration, uptime, and request/error counters. This MIB supports both software configuration monitoring and basic operational-status monitoring: lecsUpTime tracks how long the LECS service on an interface has been running, lecsOperStatus/lecsAdminStatus reveal whether the service is administratively enabled and operationally functioning, and counters like lecsInConfigReqs, lecsInConfigErrors, and lecsOutConfigFails/lecsLastFailCause expose request failures useful for diagnosing ELAN join problems. It is a self-contained ATM/LANE-specific MIB with no strong external MIB dependency beyond standard ATM MIB conventions. It was typically deployed on Cisco ATM switches and routers providing legacy LAN Emulation services in ATM-based campus or carrier networks. Engineers can download the CISCO-LECS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-LECS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco ATM switch/router (LANE LECS)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll lecsTable/lecsEntry keyed by lecsConfigTableName to check lecsOperStatus against lecsAdminStatus, confirming the LECS service is both enabled and running on a given interface. Rising lecsInConfigErrors or lecsOutConfigFails alongside a non-zero lecsLastFailCause and lecsLastFailLec would pinpoint a specific LEC repeatedly failing to join its ELAN. Tracking lecsUpTime alongside lecsStatus helps confirm the service has not recently restarted unexpectedly.

What Can Be Monitored

  • LECS admin/operational status
  • LECS service uptime
  • configuration request counts and errors
  • last failure cause and failing LEC
