Category: Cisco Devices, Network Interfaces, VLAN and Bridging

Description: Manages SVI autostate tracking which controls the up/down state of Layer 3 SVIs based on member port availability.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-SVI-AUTOSTATE-MIB?

CISCO-SVI-AUTOSTATE-MIB configures the Switch Virtual Interface (SVI) autostate feature, which dynamically computes the up/down operational state of a Layer 3 SVI based on the availability of its participating member switch ports. It belongs to the Layer 2/Layer 3 switching-resiliency technology area and exposes global feature-enable status, tracked VLAN ranges, and per-interface autostate mode configuration. Its monitoring purpose is to confirm the software logic governing SVI up/down state is correctly enabled and scoped, so that an SVI is automatically brought down when all its member ports fail — preventing routing traffic from being black-holed toward a VLAN with no functioning physical ports. It is a self-contained Cisco feature MIB with no explicit dependency on other MIBs beyond standard interface/VLAN conventions (e.g. IF-MIB for the underlying interface state it drives). It is typically deployed on Cisco Catalyst switches acting as Layer 3 switches/routers for VLAN interfaces where port-level failures must be reflected in SVI state. Engineers can download the CISCO-SVI-AUTOSTATE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SVI-AUTOSTATE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Catalyst Layer 3 switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll csaFeatureEnable and csaTrackedVlansLow/csaTrackedVlansHigh to confirm the autostate feature is enabled and covers the expected VLAN range. Checking csaIfConfigTable's csaInterfaceMode per interface would reveal whether a specific access-layer port is correctly configured to be tracked for autostate purposes, so that if all such ports on a VLAN go down, the corresponding SVI is automatically marked down rather than continuing to advertise reachability it can no longer provide.

What Can Be Monitored

  • autostate feature enabled/disabled
  • tracked VLAN range
  • per-interface autostate mode
