Description: Manages Layer 2 control protocol tunneling and filtering for protocols such as STP, VTP, and CDP.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-L2-CONTROL-MIB?

CISCO-L2-CONTROL-MIB is a Cisco Systems, Inc. proprietary MIB controlling Layer 2 functions — MAC-address-limit enforcement and unicast flooding — on routers or switches. Its objects cover a global MAC-limit enable, default max-limit/exceeded-action, exceed-notification option and enable, a per-VLAN MAC-limit table (global-config flag, max limit, exceeded action, status, enable, high-watermark and its exceed action), an FDB-VLAN-info table (MAC usage), a MAC-limit interval, default high-watermark/action/notification settings, and a unicast-flood table (admin enable). As a configuration/security MIB it lets an administrator confirm per-VLAN MAC-address-table limits and unicast-flooding control on a Cisco device. It is deployed on Cisco Systems routers/switches. Engineers can download the CISCO-L2-CONTROL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-L2-CONTROL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Systems routers/switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks clcVlanMaxMacLimit and clcVlanMacLimitExceededAction to confirm MAC-address-table capacity enforcement per VLAN on a Cisco device.
