What Is CISCO-FC-FE-MIB?
CISCO-FC-FE-MIB is a Cisco Fibre Channel fabric element management MIB for MDS SAN switches, extending the standard IF-MIB and the FIBRE-CHANNEL-FE-MIB with Cisco-specific fabric port objects. It exposes configuration data (admin mode, admin speed, trunk mode, port channel membership) and operational status data (operational mode, operational status cause, beacon mode) for Fibre Channel ports including N_port, NL_port, E_port, and B_port types. It is explicitly useful for monitoring hardware/link status of SAN fabric ports: fcIfOperMode and fcIfOperStatusCause/fcIfOperStatusCauseDescr reveal why a port is up, down, or in a particular operating mode, which is critical for diagnosing SAN connectivity issues. It has a notable dependency on both the standard IF-MIB (as a Cisco extension) and the FIBRE-CHANNEL-FE-MIB standard, whose relevant groups it incorporates. It is deployed on Cisco MDS 9000 series SAN switches interconnecting storage arrays and hosts. Monitoring Examples
An engineer would poll fcIfTable/fcIfEntry to check fcIfOperStatusCause and fcIfOperStatusCauseDescr on a port reporting down, and compare fcIfAdminMode/fcIfAdminSpeed against fcIfOperMode to detect a speed or mode mismatch. Repeated changes in fcIfOperStatusCause on an Nx_port would point to a flapping host or storage connection, while fcIfPortChannelIfIndex helps identify whether the affected port is part of a port-channel bundle.
