Description: Provides management objects for managing Cisco Fabric Extender (FEX) devices that extend data center switching fabric connectivity.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-ETHERNET-FABRIC-EXTENDER-MIB?

CISCO-ETHERNET-FABRIC-EXTENDER-MIB is a Cisco Systems proprietary MIB configuring Fabric Extenders (FEX) that connect into a Cisco core/parent switch, since a FEX itself is typically not an independently manageable entity and is instead instrumented through the parent switch. Its binding table maps a core-switch interface to a specific extender index and records when the binding was created, alongside a configuration table naming each extender and controlling serial-number verification. As a configuration MIB it lets an administrator confirm which physical FEX is bound to which uplink port on the parent switch. It is deployed on Cisco Nexus and similar core switches with attached Fabric Extenders. Engineers can download the CISCO-ETHERNET-FABRIC-EXTENDER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ETHERNET-FABRIC-EXTENDER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Nexus core switches with attached Fabric Extenders (FEX)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks cefexBindingInterfaceOnCoreSwitch against cefexBindingExtenderIndex to confirm a specific Fabric Extender is bound to the expected uplink port after a hardware swap.

What Can Be Monitored

  • FEX-to-core-switch-port binding and serial-number verification
