A state of standalone specifically warns an admin that this chassis has lost coordination with its MC-LAG peer and is forwarding on its own without protection, which is a materially different (and riskier) condition than a normal active/standby pairing even though traffic might still be flowing. Seeing this transition from active to standalone would tell an admin the peer chassis or the inter-chassis link has gone down, leaving this node unprotected until the pairing is restored.
