Description: Manages Inter-Chassis Links (ICL) for multi-chassis aggregation on Ciena CES switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CIENA-CES-ICL-MIB?
CIENA-CES-ICL-MIB defines managed objects for Inter-Chassis Links (ICL) on Ciena CES Carrier Ethernet switches, the links used to bond a pair of chassis into one logical multi-chassis aggregation unit. Its data covers configuration and operational status of the ICL itself, which carries synchronization and control traffic between the paired chassis. Its monitoring emphasis is on the ICL's link/operational state, which is critical hardware-health information because a failed ICL can break the redundancy the entire multi-chassis configuration depends on. It builds on the same physical/logical interface concepts used elsewhere in Ciena's chassis architecture. It is deployed in carrier Ethernet access/aggregation networks that use dual-chassis high-availability pairs. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CIENA-CES-ICL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIENA-CES-ICL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ciena CES Carrier Ethernet switch (multi-chassis pair)
Monitoring Examples
Sample object names were not provided for this module, so specific OIDs can't be cited, but per its description the MIB defines managed objects for Inter-Chassis Links. In practice an operator would poll the ICL's operational/link state and member interface to confirm the link between the two chassis in a redundant pair is up; if that status changes to down, the paired chassis lose their synchronization path and multi-chassis aggregation can fail over or split.
What Can Be Monitored
- ICL link operational status
- ICL member interface/port
- inter-chassis synchronization state
