TEXTUAL-CONVENTION

What Is CADANT-TC?

CADANT-TC is a textual-conventions module shared across the MIB suite for ARRIS (formerly Cadant) Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) platforms used in DOCSIS cable broadband networks. It defines common data types -- such as enumerated states, index conventions, or string formats -- that other Cadant/ARRIS CMTS MIB modules reuse to represent things like card status, RF channel state, or subscriber session attributes consistently. It carries no managed objects of its own, so it exposes no directly pollable hardware or software status such as uptime, temperature, or CPU load; those metrics live in the CMTS chassis, cable-interface, and DOCSIS MIB modules that import these conventions. Its main dependency is on the standard SNMPv2-TC framework, and indirectly on the broader DOCSIS/CMTS MIB suite that relies on it for consistent typing. It is deployed wherever ARRIS/Cadant CMTS equipment is managed, as a compile-time dependency for the vendor's cable-plant management MIBs. Any CADANT-TC reference encountered in ARRIS/Cadant CMTS documentation therefore points to this shared-typing role rather than to any directly monitorable data.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CADANT-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • CommScope (ARRIS) C4c CMTS - compact DOCSIS 3.0 CMTS based on the C4 platform, part of CommScope's current broadband access portfolio

Monitoring Examples

This module has no sample objects -- it defines only shared textual conventions that other Cadant/ARRIS CMTS MIBs use for typing their own tables and objects. There is no realistic monitoring scenario for this module in isolation; its types instead show up as the data formats of objects polled in other Cadant CMTS MIB modules (e.g., cable card or RF channel state tables).
