What Is CADANT-CMTS-PACKETCABLE-MIB?
CADANT-CMTS-PACKETCABLE-MIB is an ARRIS/Cadant proprietary MIB for their CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) platform, covering PacketCable multimedia service management - general-purpose objects for provisioning and monitoring VoIP/multimedia service flows (gates) over DOCSIS cable networks not covered by more specialized PacketCable MIBs. It exposes resource-usage and admission-control data - upstream/downstream normal and emergency bandwidth usage (allowed versus reserved), gate counts, and CAM table entries - alongside configuration such as preemption policy. CADANT-CMTS-PACKETCABLE-MIB SNMP monitoring reveals the software/service-level health of the PacketCable subsystem: allowed-versus-reserved usage objects show how much upstream/downstream capacity is consumed by PacketCable calls/gates, and gate-count objects track active call volume, useful for detecting resource exhaustion or emergency-service overload. It is a PacketCable-specific extension used alongside the broader CADANT-CMTS enterprise MIB family covering DOCSIS interface and modem status. It is typically deployed on ARRIS/Cadant CMTS head-end equipment supporting PacketCable-based VoIP/multimedia services over cable.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CADANT-CMTS-PACKETCABLE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- upstream normal bandwidth allowed vs reserved
- downstream normal bandwidth allowed vs reserved
- upstream/downstream emergency service bandwidth usage
- active PacketCable gate counts
- CAM resource/DSx availability
- preemption policy state
Supported Devices
- ARRIS/Cadant CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) head-end equipment
Monitoring Examples
cadPCUpNormAllowedUsage and cadPCUpNormResUsage, with downstream counterparts cadPCDownNormAllowedUsage/cadPCDownNormResUsage, let an admin compare allowed versus actually reserved bandwidth for normal-priority PacketCable service flows, revealing capacity pressure before it causes call setup failures. The emergency-service counterparts, cadPCUpEmerAllowedUsage/cadPCUpEmerResUsage and cadPCDownEmerAllowedUsage/cadPCDownEmerResUsage, do the same for E911-style emergency service flows, which an operator would watch closely since emergency call admission takes priority. cadPCCAMTable/cadPCCAMEntry and cadFreeDSxAllowed expose per-CAM resource/DSx availability, and cadPCPreemptionAllowed indicates whether the CMTS may preempt lower-priority flows to admit higher-priority ones.
