Category: DOCSIS and Cable, Device Management, Vendor: ARRIS
Description: Manages system-level configuration including software version, boot parameters, and system identity on ARRIS/Cadant CMTS equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CADANT-CMTS-SYSTEM-MIB?
CADANT-CMTS-SYSTEM-MIB is an ARRIS proprietary MIB (successor to the Cadant name) defining system-wide DOCSIS timing and protocol parameters and constants on the Arris E6000 CMTS. Its objects configure synchronization interval, UCD (Upstream Channel Descriptor) interval, maximum pending MAPs, ranging interval, ranging/registration retry limits, and per-message processing-time constants used in DOCSIS cable-modem registration. As a configuration MIB it lets an administrator confirm the CMTS's DOCSIS timing parameters match vendor-recommended values when diagnosing cable-modem registration delays or failures. It is deployed on ARRIS E6000 CMTS platforms in cable operator head-ends. Engineers can download the CADANT-CMTS-SYSTEM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CADANT-CMTS-SYSTEM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- ARRIS E6000 CMTS
Monitoring Examples
An administrator checks cadSysRangingInterval and cadSysInvitedRangingRetries against recommended DOCSIS timing values when a batch of cable modems is taking unusually long to complete ranging and registration.
What Can Be Monitored
- DOCSIS timing intervals and registration retry limits

| U32 cadCosDnMaxTrafficBurst | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4998.1.1.5.1.10.9.1.3 | Unsigned32 | read-write | The downstream 1.0 equivalent of the (1.1) DOCS-QOS3-MIB object docsQosParamSetMaxTrafficBurst |

| BIT cadCosDnPeakTrafficRate | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4998.1.1.5.1.10.9.1.11 | BitRate | read-write | Peak traffic rate shaped to while traffic still conforms to the policing parameters (Tmax and Burst). If the peak rate is set to a value greater than Tmax, then the traffic will be shaped to the peak rate until the traffic is non-conforming to the policing parameters, and then the traffic will be shaped to the Tmax rate. If the peak rate is less than the Tmax for a flow, then all traffic for that flow will shaped to the Tmax rate. Setting the peak rate to a value of 0 will result in all flows being limited to Tmax at all times. Setting the peak rate to a value of 0xffffffff will result in flows having virtually unlimited bandwidth until their burst size is used up. This parameter only has meaning for flows on downstreams that are shaped. |
| I32 cadCosDnPriority | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4998.1.1.5.1.10.9.1.10 | Integer32 | read-write | The downstream channel priority to use. A -1 indicates that the current method of using the upstream channel priority should be used. |

| BIT cadCosUpPeakTrafficRate | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4998.1.1.5.1.10.9.1.12 | BitRate | read-write | Peak traffic rate shaped to while traffic still conforms to the policing parameters (Tmax and Burst). If the peak rate is set to a value greater than Tmax, then the traffic will be shaped to the peak rate until the traffic is non-conforming to the policing parameters, and then the traffic will be shaped to the Tmax rate. This is flexiblity actually causes the E6000 to operate outside the DOCSIS 1.1 specification by allocating and allowing more traffic than was actually requested. The initial reason for providing this capability is to mask problems produced in the Voice environment where devices have been seen to violate the traffic rates. Examples of this are MTAs that overuse the QI bit for long durations thus overdriving the downstream burst interval and the Neura IPDT gateway introducing an additional 0.5% inband signaling to the DS voice flow |
