Description: Monitors downstream receive channel parameters for COM21 HCX cable modem equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is COM21-HCXRX-MIB?
This is a private-enterprise MIB from COM21 for the ComController RX (downstream receive) card used in their HCX-series hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) cable broadband access equipment. It exposes card-level configuration and status data for the downstream receive path, such as channel frequency, modulation, and signal-level parameters on the headend RX card. Because it targets a specific receive card, it is primarily used to monitor the hardware health of that card - whether it is present and operating normally, and the quality of the incoming downstream RF signal it is receiving - functioning as a hardware/signal-status indicator for the ComController chassis. It is one part of a larger family of COM21 ComController MIBs (unit-control, topology, VLAN, etc.) and likely relies on those companion modules and standard interface conventions for full-unit context. It would typically be deployed by a cable operator's network operations center to monitor headend equipment in an HFC access network. Engineers can download the COM21-HCXRX-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in COM21-HCXRX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- COM21 ComController headend unit
- cable/HFC broadband access equipment
Monitoring Examples
The sample_objects list supplied for this MIB was empty, so no exact object or table names can be cited here. In practice this module would expose per-card receive-channel objects (frequency, signal level, lock/status) on the ComController RX card, which an operator would poll to detect a degraded or lost downstream signal on a given card slot. This should be treated as a general characterization based on the module description rather than a citation of confirmed OIDs.
What Can Be Monitored
- RX card operational status
- downstream receive signal level
- channel frequency/modulation settings

The threshold is defined as the percentage of FEC/HEC errored cells to good cells. The RX card shall calculate this percentage over a one second period, and the threshold must be crossed for the period defined by the hcxPortRatioThresPeriod attribute before a trap is generated.
