What Is ATM-FORUM-SNMP-M4-MIB?

ATM-FORUM-SNMP-M4-MIB is the SNMP mapping of the ATM Forum's M4 network-element management interface, a vendor-neutral specification for managing ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) switching equipment from the perspective of an individual network element. It exposes network-element identity and versioning (vendor, version, start time), alarm severity reporting, and physical path/transmission-path (TP) tables describing hardware unit and port-level ATM connections, along with adapter identification objects. Its monitoring value spans both software and hardware status: atmfM4NeStartTime reveals device uptime/restart history, atmfM4NeAlarmSeverityIndex and per-path atmfM4PhysPathTpAlarmSeverityIndex surface fault conditions at the network-element and physical-port level, and atmfM4PhysPathTpHwUnitIndex/atmfM4PhysPathTpPortID identify the specific hardware unit and port involved in an alarm. It is built on the ATM Forum's broader M-interface management framework (M1-M5) and is meant to interoperate with other ATM management standards for cross-vendor ATM network monitoring.
