Description: Fore Systems ATM traffic profile MIB providing management of QoS traffic contract profiles used for ATM connection provisioning.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Fore-Profile-MIB?
Fore-Profile-MIB is a Fore Systems (later Marconi) enterprise MIB defining traffic profile tables used to provision quality-of-service contracts for Frame Relay/ATM and FUNI connections and services on Fore's ATM switching platforms. Its content is fundamentally configuration/provisioning data -- reusable traffic-contract profile templates (parameters such as peak/sustained cell rate and burst size are typical of this profile-table pattern) that are referenced when creating individual connections, rather than live traffic counters or fault objects. Because no sample objects were available for this module, specific monitoring value cannot be confirmed with certainty, but as a profile/template MIB it is best understood as a configuration-management tool for connection provisioning rather than a hardware or software health monitor. It likely depends on Fore's broader ATM/FR connection and PVC MIBs, since profiles defined here are meant to be applied when creating connections managed elsewhere. It was deployed on Fore Systems ATM switches and edge devices used for Frame Relay/ATM/FUNI service provisioning in carrier and enterprise WAN environments. Engineers can download the Fore-Profile-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Fore-Profile-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Fore Systems (Marconi) ATM/Frame Relay switches
Monitoring Examples
Because no sample objects were provided for this module, a concrete polling example cannot be given with confidence. In general, a provisioning engineer would define a named traffic profile (e.g., specifying committed and peak rates) in this MIB's profile table, then reference that profile when creating an actual PVC or connection elsewhere in Fore's connection-management MIBs. Reviewing the profile table would mainly serve change-audit purposes -- confirming which QoS templates exist and are in use -- rather than revealing operational anomalies directly.
