Description: Monitors OTN performance monitoring counters on Infinera optical interfaces.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is LUM-IFOTNMON-MIB?
LUM-IFOTNMON-MIB is an Infinera-related SNMP MIB that manages Optical Transport Network (OTN) performance-monitoring counters on optical transport interfaces, implementing the Section Monitoring (SM), Tandem Connection Monitoring (TCM), and Path Monitoring (PM) constructs defined in ITU-T G.709/G.798/G.806. It exposes general administrative objects (table sizes and last configuration/state-change timestamps for the SM, TCM, PM, and trace object groups) alongside the underlying per-layer monitoring tables themselves. Its primary use is fault and performance monitoring of optical hardware: tracking configuration/state change timestamps and table sizes for each OTN monitoring layer lets an operator detect when the number of monitored entities changes or when section/path monitoring state has been altered, both signs of link flaps or reconfiguration events. The MIB explicitly builds on ITU-T Recommendations G.709/Y.1331, G.798, and G.806 as its normative reference standards rather than IETF conventions, making adherence to those telecom standards a core dependency. It is deployed on Infinera DWDM/OTN transport platforms where carriers need standards-based visibility into optical signal quality and transport-layer error performance. Engineers can download the LUM-IFOTNMON-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LUM-IFOTNMON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Infinera optical transport network (OTN) equipment
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll ifOtnMonGeneralIfOtnMonSmTableSize and ifOtnMonGeneralIfOtnMonSmStateLastChangeTime to see how many Section Monitoring entities exist and when their state last changed, flagging an unexpected SM reconfiguration or fault. Comparing ifOtnMonGeneralIfOtnMonTcmTableSize and ifOtnMonGeneralIfOtnMonPmTableSize over time reveals whether tandem-connection or path-monitoring points have been added or removed, and ifOtnMonGeneralConfigLastChangeTime pinpoints the last configuration change across the whole OTN monitoring subsystem for correlation with a reported optical fault.
What Can Be Monitored
- SM/TCM/PM table sizes
- OTN monitoring configuration last-change time
- OTN monitoring state last-change time
- trace table size
- section/tandem/path monitoring point counts

RFC description
OTN optical network monitoring MIB from Infinera managing section, TCM, path monitoring, and trace objects per ITU-T G.709.
Start monitoring Infinera optical transport network (OTN) equipment (SM/TCM/PM monitoring) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
