Indicates whether a Backward Defect Indication (BDI) alarm is currently active at the Section Monitoring layer, per G.709/G.798, meaning the far end has reported a defect back to this end. An admin treats an active BDI here as confirmation that the remote end of this OTN section sees a problem, even if the local receive signal looks fine.
