Description: Monitors signal conditioning parameters including amplifier gain, attenuation, and dispersion compensation on NBS optical links.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NBS-SIGCOND-MIB?
NBS-SIGCOND-MIB is an NBase enterprise MIB for signal conditioning on optical transport links, managing components such as Variable Optical Attenuators (VOAs) that tune received and transmitted optical signal power. It exposes per-port VOA tables with administrative and operational attenuation settings for both receive and transmit directions, plus flow-level VOA tables for finer-grained control. It is used to monitor the hardware status of the optical signal path — confirming that attenuation is set and actually applied (admin versus operational values) at the correct level to keep optical power within the receiver's safe operating range, which is critical for link stability. As part of the broader NBase optical/OTN MIB family it complements related modules like NBS-FECPM-MIB that monitor resulting signal quality. It is typically deployed on NBase DWDM/optical transport equipment in metro and long-haul networks where per-link optical power needs active tuning to avoid receiver saturation or signal starvation. Engineers can download the NBS-SIGCOND-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NBS-SIGCOND-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- NBase-Xyplex optical transport/DWDM platform
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll nbsSigCondVoaPortTable/nbsSigCondVoaPortEntry keyed by nbsSigCondVoaPortIfIndex to compare nbsSigCondVoaPortRxAttenuAdmin against nbsSigCondVoaPortRxAttenuOper (and the Tx equivalents); a mismatch between admin and operational attenuation indicates the VOA hardware failed to apply the configured setting, which could push receive power out of range and degrade the optical link. The nbsSigCondVoaFlowTable/nbsSigCondVoaFlowEntry provides the same visibility at individual flow granularity for finer diagnosis on multiplexed links.
What Can Be Monitored
- receive/transmit attenuation setting (admin)
- receive/transmit attenuation actual (operational)
- per-port VOA configuration
- per-flow VOA configuration
