Description: Configures and monitors reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer channel routing on NBS ROADM devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NBS-ROADM-MIB?

NBS-ROADM-MIB is an enterprise MIB (NBS/Nortel optical products) for configuring and monitoring Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) channel routing in DWDM optical transport networks. It exposes configuration and status data organized per optical interface, including staging tables for add/drop capabilities, quick-configuration commit operations, committed grid type, committed channel assignments, and flexgrid-specific channel tables. Its monitoring emphasis is on the operational/software state of the optical add-drop function -- confirming which wavelength channels are committed and routed on a given interface, whether staged configuration changes have been committed, and whether the grid type (fixed vs. flexgrid) matches the intended design -- serving as a health/status check for the optical routing layer rather than a general hardware sensor MIB. It is a self-contained optical-transport enterprise MIB, though it operates in the broader context of ITU-T G.694 flexible/fixed grid standards for DWDM. It is deployed on NBS/Nortel ROADM network elements in metro/long-haul DWDM optical transport networks. Engineers can download the NBS-ROADM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NBS-ROADM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NBS/Nortel ROADM optical network element

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll nbsRoadmCommonTable/nbsRoadmCommonEntry, checking nbsRoadmCommonCommittedGridType and nbsRoadmCommonCommittedChannels against nbsRoadmCommonIfIndex to confirm a given optical port has the expected wavelength channels committed and routed. Checking nbsRoadmCommonStagingCommit would reveal whether a pending add/drop configuration change was successfully applied, while nbsRoadmFlexgridTable/nbsRoadmFlexgridTableSize would be checked on flexgrid-capable ports to verify flexible channel spacing is correctly provisioned. A mismatch between staged add/drop capabilities and the committed channel list would indicate a failed or incomplete ROADM reconfiguration.

What Can Be Monitored

  • committed grid type
  • committed wavelength channels
  • staged add/drop capabilities
  • configuration commit status
  • flexgrid channel table size
