Description: Manages subnet-based VLAN assignment mapping IP subnets to VLANs on HP/Comware Layer 3 switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HPN-ICF-SUBNET-VLAN-MIB?
This MIB manages subnet-based VLAN assignment on HP/Comware Layer 3 switches, mapping IP subnets to VLANs so that traffic is assigned to a VLAN based on its source IP subnet rather than a port or protocol. It belongs to the HP/H3C ICF family and exposes both scalar capacity counters (total/per-VLAN subnet and port counts) and a configuration table mapping VLAN ID, subnet index, IP address, and netmask to a row-status-controlled entry. Its monitoring value lies in verifying the software configuration state of Layer 3 VLAN segmentation: an operator checks hpnicfSubnetNumAllVlan/hpnicfSubnetNumPerVlan against expected capacity limits, and reviews hpnicfSubnetVlanTable rows to confirm each subnet-to-VLAN mapping is active (RowStatus) and correctly bound to the intended IP address/netmask, catching misconfigurations that would misclassify traffic into the wrong VLAN. It has no evident dependency on IETF standard MIBs, being a proprietary HP/Comware Layer 3 VLAN feature. It is deployed on HP/Comware Layer 3 access switches segmenting traffic by subnet for multi-tenant or departmental network designs. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-SUBNET-VLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-SUBNET-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP/Comware Layer 3 switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll hpnicfSubnetVlanTable/hpnicfSubnetVlanEntry (indexed by hpnicfSubnetVlanVlanId and hpnicfSubnetVlanSubnetIndex) to confirm hpnicfSubnetVlanIpAddressValue and hpnicfSubnetVlanNetMaskValue match the intended subnet, with hpnicfSubnetVlanRowStatus showing whether the mapping is currently active. If hpnicfSubnetNumPerVlan approaches the configured maximum, additional subnet-to-VLAN bindings for that VLAN will be rejected, which an operator would catch by comparing it against hpnicfSubnetNumAllVlan before attempting to add another subnet mapping.
What Can Be Monitored
- subnet-to-VLAN mapping status
- configured subnet IP address/netmask per VLAN
- total VLANs/subnets configured
- per-VLAN subnet count vs. limit
