What Is HPVC-MIB?

HPVC-MIB is an HP BladeSystem enterprise MIB for HP Virtual Connect Manager (VCM), the software that manages an entire Virtual Connect domain spanning one or more blade enclosures. It belongs to the blade-server/converged-networking technology area and exposes domain-level configuration and status covering the VC domain itself, its enclosures, Ethernet and Fibre Channel modules, physical servers, and the associations between them. It supports monitoring of both hardware and software status through objects such as domain managed status, primary management address, whether the configuration checkpoint is valid and when it was last saved, stacking-link redundancy between enclosures, and per-enclosure managed status, all indicating whether the VC infrastructure is healthy and consistently configured. It builds on HP's broader BladeSystem enclosure MIB structure, correlating VC objects with physical enclosure and server identifiers. It is typically deployed in HP BladeSystem c-Class data-center environments where Virtual Connect provides converged LAN/SAN connectivity to blade servers, and administrators can download the HPVC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPVC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls vcDomainManagedStatus and vcDomainCheckpointValid to confirm the Virtual Connect domain is actively managed and its saved configuration checkpoint is valid, checking vcDomainLastCheckpointTime to see when configuration was last committed. The vcEnclosureTable/vcEnclosureEntry rows, indexed by vcEnclosureIndex, are polled for vcEnclosureName and vcEnclosureManagedStatus to verify every blade enclosure reports as managed; an entry showing degraded status would indicate a lost stacking or console connection. vcDomainStackingLinkRedundant is checked to confirm the domain's internal stacking links have redundancy, since a non-redundant link is a single point of failure for the whole domain.
