Description: HP ICF SNMP MIB for SNMP agent configuration including community strings, trap targets, and access control on HP ProCurve devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HP-ICF-SNMP-MIB?

HP-ICF-SNMP-MIB is a Hewlett-Packard proprietary module for configuring the SNMP agent itself on ProCurve/Aruba switches, covering community strings, trap/notification destinations, and access control settings. Rather than exposing performance or environmental telemetry, it manages the manageability layer — how and to whom the device reports its own SNMP data. Its monitoring/software-status relevance is indirect but important: misconfiguration here (wrong trap targets, revoked community strings) can silently blind a monitoring system to a device's true health, so operators audit this MIB to confirm expected trap receivers and access permissions are still correctly configured. It parallels but does not formally extend the standard SNMP-COMMUNITY-MIB, SNMP-TARGET-MIB, and SNMPv3 VACM framework, instead offering an HP-specific configuration surface. It is used in HP ProCurve/Aruba network deployments during initial provisioning and periodic security/config audits of the SNMP management plane. Engineers can download the HP-ICF-SNMP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-ICF-SNMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP ProCurve managed switch
  • HP Aruba switch

Monitoring Examples

The sampled source contained no concrete object names beyond its stated purpose, so specific identifiers cannot be cited here. Typically, an administrator would check this module's community-string and trap-destination configuration objects to confirm the correct NMS is still registered to receive traps after a configuration change, rather than discovering after the fact that alerts were being sent to a decommissioned server.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured SNMP community strings
  • trap/notification destination addresses
  • SNMP access control settings
