Category: Protocol: LLDP, Vendor: H3C/HH3C, Vendor: HP/HPE
Description: Extends LLDP with HP/Comware-specific TLVs for enhanced neighbor discovery and topology mapping.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HPN-ICF-LLDP-EXT-MIB?
HPN-ICF-LLDP-EXT-MIB is an HP Networking (Comware/H3C) vendor MIB extending the standard Link Layer Discovery Protocol with additional vendor TLVs and interoperability settings, notably CDP (Cisco Discovery Protocol) compliance mode, to improve neighbor discovery and topology mapping in mixed-vendor environments. It exposes a global LLDP admin-status scalar, a CDP-compliance status scalar, and a per-port configuration table controlling per-port CDP-compliance behavior. For hardware/software status monitoring, this MIB helps confirm that neighbor-discovery is enabled where expected and that CDP-compatibility mode is correctly configured on ports connecting to Cisco equipment, which is important for automated topology discovery tools that rely on accurate neighbor information rather than for detecting hardware faults directly. It is explicitly an extension of the standard IEEE 802.1AB LLDP-MIB, adding vendor-specific compliance objects on top of it. It is deployed on HP/H3C Comware switches and routers operating in networks with mixed HP and Cisco equipment where discovery-protocol interoperability matters. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-LLDP-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-LLDP-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP/H3C Comware switch
- HP/H3C Comware router
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would check hpnicflldpAdminStatus to confirm LLDP is globally enabled, and hpnicflldpComplianceCDPStatus to see whether CDP-compatible mode is active at the system level. The hpnicflldpPortConfigTable, indexed by hpnicflldpPortConfigPortNum, would be polled to check hpnicflldpPortConfigCDPComplianceStatus per port, revealing which ports are configured to interoperate with a neighboring Cisco switch's CDP announcements versus standard LLDP-only ports, useful when diagnosing why a neighbor isn't appearing in topology-discovery tools.
What Can Be Monitored
- global LLDP admin status
- CDP compliance status
- per-port CDP compliance configuration
