Category: Technology: VLAN, Vendor: H3C/HH3C, Vendor: HP/HPE

Description: Manages VLAN mapping (VMAP) policies for translating or aggregating VLAN tags on HP/Comware switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-VMAP-MIB?

HPN-ICF-VMAP-MIB, based on the H3C/HP Comware 802.1 VLAN Mapping specification, manages VLAN mapping (VMAP) policies that translate customer VLAN tags to service-provider VLAN tags (1-to-1 mapping) or aggregate multiple customer VLANs into one (N-to-1 range mapping) at network-to-network interfaces (NNI). It exposes configuration tables for NNI port state, 1-to-1 VLAN translation pairs, and N-to-1 VLAN range mappings. This is primarily a configuration/policy MIB used to confirm that VLAN translation rules are correctly provisioned and active, giving visibility into the software-configured state of a switch's VLAN tag-swapping logic rather than hardware sensors. It builds on the standard VLAN/bridge MIBs (e.g., Q-BRIDGE-MIB) since it operates on VLAN IDs defined there. It is typically deployed on HP/H3C Comware carrier-Ethernet or metro-access switches providing VLAN translation services for multiple customers over a shared provider network, where HPN-ICF-VMAP-MIB SNMP monitoring verifies each customer's VLAN mapping rules stay correctly provisioned.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-VMAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP/H3C Comware carrier-Ethernet/metro-access switches

Monitoring Examples

A provisioning check would walk hpnicfVMAP1to1Table, verifying that hpnicfVMAP1to1Vlan correctly maps to hpnicfVMAP1to1TranslatedVlan and that hpnicfVMAP1to1RowStatus shows the entry as active for a given customer circuit. For aggregated customers, hpnicfVMAPNto1RangeTable is checked to confirm hpnicfVMAPNto1StartVlan through hpnicfVMAPNto1EndVlan spans the intended VLAN range. Meanwhile hpnicfVMAPNNIState in hpnicfVMAPNNITable is polled to confirm the network-to-network interface port is enabled for VLAN mapping, and an unexpected disabled state would explain why customer VLAN tags aren't being translated.

What Can Be Monitored

  • NNI port VLAN-mapping enable state
  • 1-to-1 VLAN translation pairs
  • N-to-1 VLAN range aggregation
  • VLAN mapping row/configuration status
