Description: Hirschmann HiOS (HM2) I/O module MIB for managing plug-in I/O expansion modules on Hirschmann industrial switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HM2-IOMODULE-MIB?

HM2-IOMODULE-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Hirschmann for its HiOS-based industrial switches, covering plug-in digital I/O expansion modules, a hardware/industrial-automation technology area. It exposes configuration of digital input and output channels on these I/O modules, including administrative state, refresh intervals for polling input/output values, and retry counts for output operations, organized in per-channel input and output tables. Its monitoring value is squarely hardware-status oriented: confirming whether digital inputs/outputs are administratively enabled, tracking per-channel logging and SNMP trap generation on input state changes (hm2IOModConfigDigInputLogEvent, hm2IOModConfigDigInputSnmpTrap), which lets an operator detect an external sensor or contact-closure event (e.g. a door open sensor, alarm contact) wired into the switch's I/O module. It is a Hirschmann-specific extension layered on top of the vendor's broader HiOS device MIB set rather than a standard IETF MIB. It is deployed on Hirschmann industrial Ethernet switches used in factory automation, rail, or utility environments where digital I/O modules interface with physical sensors and actuators. Engineers can download the HM2-IOMODULE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HM2-IOMODULE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Hirschmann industrial Ethernet switch (HiOS-based, with I/O module)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll hm2IOModConfigDigInputTable/hm2IOModConfigDigInputEntry, keyed by hm2IOModConfigDigInputModID and hm2IOModConfigDigInputID, to check whether a specific digital input channel has hm2IOModConfigDigInputSnmpTrap enabled, so that a change on that physical contact (such as a cabinet door sensor) generates an SNMP notification via hm2IOModuleMibNotifications. Checking hm2IOModConfigDigInputRefreshInterval and hm2IOModConfigDigOutputRefreshInterval confirms how frequently the module samples input/output state, and hm2IOModConfigDigOutputRetryCount shows how many times a failed output command is retried before being reported as failed.

What Can Be Monitored

  • digital input channel state
  • digital output channel state
  • input/output admin status
  • input change trap/logging configuration
  • output retry count
  • input/output refresh interval
