Description: Hirschmann HiOS (HM2) power management MIB for monitoring power supply units and consumption on Hirschmann switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HM2-PWRMGMT-MIB?

HM2-PWRMGMT-MIB is a Hirschmann HiOS (HM2) MIB dedicated to power management on Hirschmann's modular industrial network switches. It exposes tables describing each power supply unit's slot, chassis type, state, manufacturer, manufacturing date, serial number, and product code, along with a notification group for power-related events. This is a clear hardware-health monitoring module: it lets administrators directly check the operational state of individual power supply units and their identifying inventory data, which is critical for detecting a failed or missing PSU in a redundant power configuration. It is a Hirschmann-specific extension that typically complements the standard ENTITY-MIB for overall chassis/module inventory. It is deployed in industrial and rugged networking environments where Hirschmann switches provide redundant power for critical infrastructure. Engineers can download the HM2-PWRMGMT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HM2-PWRMGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Hirschmann industrial Ethernet switch (HiOS/HM2 platform)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll hm2PSTable/hm2PSEntry, checking hm2PSID against hm2PSState to detect a power supply that has failed or been removed from a redundant pair. The hm2PSUSlotInfoTable further exposes hm2PSUSlotManufacturerId, hm2PSUSlotSerialNumber, and hm2PSUSlotProductCode for asset tracking, while hm2PowerMgmtMibNotifications would fire when a PSU's state transitions, alerting on loss of power redundancy in the switch chassis.

What Can Be Monitored

  • power supply unit state
  • power supply presence/slot status
  • PSU manufacturer and serial number
  • PSU product code
  • power redundancy status

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hm2PSState OID:

Select a Hirschmann HiOS industrial modular Ethernet switch (power supply unit inventory) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hm2PSState into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. Indicates the operational state of the associated power supply. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'present', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
