Description: ADVA Optical Networking F3 platform MIB for Provider Backbone Bridging (PBB/802.1ah) service configuration and monitoring.

What Is F3-PBB-MIB?

This ADVA F3 platform MIB covers Provider Backbone Bridging (PBB, IEEE 802.1ah) service configuration on FSP150CM/CC carrier Ethernet devices, which use MAC-in-MAC encapsulation to scale service provider backbone networks. It exposes per-port configuration for both access-side and network-side PBB ports, including backbone MAC address assignment and I-tag loopback test masks for each port. Its monitoring emphasis is on validating PBB service configuration and running loopback diagnostics — f3PbbEthernetNetPortBackboneMacAddress confirms the backbone MAC identity used for MAC-in-MAC tunneling, while the ITagLoopback objects let an operator run in-service loopback tests on specific I-tag service instances to confirm connectivity. It is organized alongside sibling F3 MIBs (F3-PWE3, F3-POPM, F3-JDSU) under the same ADVA FSP150 platform tree rather than depending on external IETF MIBs, since 802.1ah PBB has no standard IETF MIB. It is deployed in service provider backbone/aggregation networks using ADVA FSP150CM/CC devices to deliver scalable Ethernet services over a PBB core. Engineers can download the F3-PBB-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in F3-PBB-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ADVA FSP150CM/CC carrier Ethernet device (PBB/802.1ah backbone service)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would inspect f3PbbEthernetAccPortTable/Entry and f3PbbEthernetNetPortTable/Entry to check f3PbbEthernetNetPortBackboneMacAddress assigned to each network-facing PBB port, confirming correct MAC-in-MAC backbone addressing for the service. Setting f3PbbEthernetAccPortITagLoopback1/2/3 (gated by f3PbbEthernetAccPortITagLoopbackMask) triggers an I-tag-specific loopback test, letting the operator verify that a particular backbone service instance is passing traffic correctly without needing to loop the whole physical port.

What Can Be Monitored

  • access port PBB configuration
  • network port backbone MAC address
  • I-tag loopback test state (per access/network port)
  • PBB service loopback mask
