What Is F3-PWE3-MIB?

This ADVA F3 platform MIB covers Pseudowire Edge-to-Edge Emulation (PWE3) service configuration on FSP150CM/CC devices, used to carry Ethernet or TDM traffic transparently over a packet-switched network via emulated circuits. It exposes profile-based configuration for idle-pattern insertion, jitter-buffer resynchronization (increase/decrease factors and resync threshold), and loopback testing on pseudowire circuits. Its monitoring relevance is centered on pseudowire service health and diagnostics — the resync profile thresholds reveal how aggressively the device corrects for clock/jitter drift on the emulated circuit, and the loopback profile enables in-service fault isolation on a specific pseudowire. As with the other F3 MIBs, it builds on IETF PWE3 concepts (RFC 3985-style pseudowire emulation) without directly importing an IETF PWE3 MIB, layering ADVA-specific profile tables instead. It is deployed on ADVA FSP150CM/CC network elements used to deliver circuit emulation services, such as carrying legacy TDM traffic over an Ethernet/IP core. Engineers can download the F3-PWE3-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in F3-PWE3-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

An operator would configure f3Pwe3ResyncProfileTable/Entry with f3Pwe3ResyncProfileIncreaseFactor, DecreaseFactor, and ResyncThreshold to tune how the pseudowire jitter buffer recovers from clock drift, then monitor for frequent resync events as an indicator of an unstable underlying packet path. f3Pwe3IdlePatternProfileByte defines the idle fill pattern sent when there's no payload, and f3Pwe3LoopbackProfileTable/Entry lets the operator initiate a loopback test on a specific pseudowire to isolate whether a fault lies in the emulated circuit or the far-end equipment.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using f3Pwe3SatopThresholdMonValue OID:

Select an ADVA Optical Networking FSP150CM/CC (F3 platform) carrier Ethernet device (Pseudowire Edge-to-Edge Emulation) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type f3Pwe3SatopThresholdMonValue into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the monitored value corresponding to f3Pwe3SatopThresholdVariable. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
